Viridian cruised
with Moni-Jean leading the
way to an anchorage off the Mobile River, down the Tensaw River Cut-Off and up
Brier Creek after the fog finally let us go. This was another beautiful
Alabama anchorage in a secluded place with just the right amount of current to
keep Viridian pointed up
stream. The crew of Binary joined
Viridian and Moni-Jean and
once the anchors were set we all dinghied over to the Moni-Jean for docktales and grilled chicken. The food
was excellent and the conversation lively. After
finishing our meal, we took Jazzy back to Viridian and
turned in full and exhausted.
Next
morning we saw a little fog, so we waited till it started melting away before
we lifted anchors and headed to Mobile. We were anchored only 23 miles north
of Dog River Marina, so it was an easy day full of new scenery, open waters and
the smell of salt air and seafood! Our cruise through the Port of Mobile
was just amazing. There is so much BIG stuff there it is hard to
photograph and transfer perspective in a blog. But we sure made an
attempt. Once through Mobile, we entered Mobile Bay and continued south to
the Dog River channel, turned west and pulled up to the fuel dock to take on
fuel and a pump out. After taking care of the refueling we moved Viridian to
the transient dock and started our other chores for the afternoon that included
changing the oil in the Viridian diesel, first mates taking
the loaner vehicle to shop for food and provisions, and washing a few loads of
laundry. Once this was done, the crews of Viridian, Moni-Jean and Sandman (two
brothers from Texas taking their boat from the Ohio River to Houston, TX via the
Tenn-Tom) drove to a restaurant and enjoyed conversation and food. We
were sad to be parting ways with the crew of Sandman, as we
shared several adventures cruising together down the Tenn-Tom. We hope
our paths will cross again soon. Sandman and crew will be
heading west to Texas and Viridian will be heading east
with Moni-Jean as we head for our winter destination in the
Florida Keys.
